Home » Boys' Basketball NewsBoys beat Saraland SpartansNovember 30, 2012 St. Lukes Episcopal SchoolBoys Basketball: St. Luke's 54, Saraland 49, MOBILE, Alabama -- Adam Miller had a game-high 14 points while Aaron Bryant added 12 as host St. Luke's never trailed in the game but had to hold on at the end to beat visiting Saraland on Thursday evening. St. Luke's jumped out to a big 21-8 lead after the opening period and led 31-20 at halftime but that lead had dwindled all the way to 43-37 heading into the final quarter. Saraland pulled within two points at 51-49 with 1:13 left to play in the contest but never scored again.
St. Luke's misfired on 5-of-8 free throws in the final minute however and the triumph wasn't a sure thing until Thomas Stubblefield nailed two free throws with five seconds remaining to help ice the victory.
"We're learning to play with a lead," said St. Luke's coach Kantonio Davis. "It is something new, we're making strides but we made some poor decisions tonight at th end of the ballgame. We came out with a lot of energy to start with and jumped out to a big advantage but we tend to relax, we have to work on playing a full 32 minutes."
Overall, the Wildcats nailed 8-of-14 free throws on the evening.
The Wildcats improve to 4-2 with the triumph and play next at Saraland next Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Spartans fall to 1-3 and will play next at home against UMS-Wright on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Wyndell Archie led Saraland in scoring on the night with a game-high 14 points.
