MOBILE, Alabama - The New Horizons Credit Union 1st and 10 Club recognized five high school students on Monday night at Heron Lakes Country Club.

The New Horizon Credit Union Academic Students of the Week were Dalton Becker of St. Luke's and Marlee Brannan of Baldwin County, two students interested in medicine.

Brannan has endured as a top student despite her father's death from pancreatic cancer in January. Inspired by the experiences of her father during his illness, Brannan said she hopes to attend the University of Alabama and study nursing anesthesiology or pre-med.

A three-sport athlete at St. Luke's, Becker has endured several surgeries related to osteonecrosis, an ailment that impairs the blood supply to the hip joint. Becker said he would like to attend Alabama, Troy or West Alabama and study sports medicine.

The New Horizons Credit Union Student Athletes of the Week were Murphy's Kameron Maye, Mobile Christian's Logan Grimes and Bryant's Tyren Williams.

Maye, the Panthers' quarterback, was the top offensive player after running for 239 yards and two touchdowns and throwing a TD pass in Murphy's 35-21 victory over Baker on Friday night.

Grimes and Williams were each recognized for their defensive play. Grimes, a linebacker for the Leopards, made 16 tackles as Mobile Christian stayed unbeaten with a 14-12 victory over Millry. Williams, a defensive back, scored two touchdowns - on a 39-yard blocked punt and a 54-yard fumble return - in Bryant's 28-12 victory over Theodore.
