Coach Beverly and the Wildcats get 1st Football Win of 2012

THOMASTON, Alabama -- St. Luke's running back George Payne scored on an 87-yard run on the game's first play, and the Wildcats went on to defeat A.L. Johnson.
Payne finished with 183 yards on 19 carries and added touchdown runs of 14 and 7 yards later in the night to give first-year coach John Beverly his first iw.
"These guys were really focused this week," said Beverly, whose bounced back from a 37-36 season-opening loss to Mobile Christian. "We have a goal of making the playoffs, and getting that first region win is just one step closer to that goal."
Dalton Becker caught a 23-yard touchdown from Drew Favors, and Justin Ware also had a 26-yard touchdown run for the Wildcats. (1-1 overall, 1-0 in Class 1A Region 1). Favors finished 6-for-6 for 140 yards.
St. Luke's visits No. 2-ranked Linden next week.
