Mavericks RSVP with Big Win at STH Invitational

St. Johns School



Led by Nathan Avery's ('13) first place win in the 182 lb class, the Mavericks pulled out their first team victory in the history of the high school program.  Heavy weight Alexander Saucer (HW)’12Preston Neal (132) ’14, and Orion Hicks (145)’15 finished second.  Ben Stein (126)’13, and Eric Hobby (170) ’13 took third.  Walter Moore (160) ’13, andZach Long (220) ’12 placed fourth.

 


With a team score of 126.5, St. John’s finished on top of the heap of mostly local competition just ahead of Kinkaid (124) and host St. Thomas (117).  Beaumont West Brook took 3rd(112) followed by: Episcopal (110), Clear Brook (88), Cy-Fair (81), Evangel, LA (70), Brazoswood (65), Clear Springs (62), George Ranch (42), Jersey Village (29), Strake Jesuit (27) and Lamar (22).

 

 

Avery won the tournament Most Outstanding Wrestler Award.



"This was a huge win for the program," said Head Coach Alan Paul.  "The result speaks for itself, and I could not be more proud of our wrestlers."



The annual War on the Floor match vs the Falcons is next on the mat for the Mavericks.
