2014 Season - Game #1 versus Duluth East
September 2, 2014By Carlo Scardigli of St. Francis High School
On a nice night at Greyhound Stadium the Saints got out of the gates fast in the 2014 season with a 55-0 victory over Duluth East.
On the second play of the game Ron Olson took a handoff and scampered 54 yards through a gapping hole for a TD to get the season off and running. On the 5th offensive play Isaiah Brunette powered his way in from 10 yards and the Saints were on there way. Before the horn sounded to end the 1st quarter John Santiago scored from 56 yards out and the Saints had built a 21-0 lead.
The 2nd quarter was almost a carbon copy of the 1st quarter with the Saints adding 3 more TD's. Two by John Santiago on runs of 22 & 34and a TD reception for Blake Moreno from 3 yards out from Hunter Trautman. Going in at half the Saints had a very comfortable 41-0 lead.
The 2nd half saw the Saints score 2 more TD's. One on a Max Greene 50 yard run and Mitch Ramacher on a 1 yard dive.
Hats off to the defense as they started the 2014 campaign by throwing a goose egg on the board as they were flying around plunging the holes and not allowing any big pass plays as they held the DE offense to ~100 yards of total offense and recovered 2 fumbles.
This week the STMA Knights come to Saints stadium for a early season tilt. The Saints are looking for revenge after a loss last season. This game is a Top 10 Metro game this week. Come out and support the team!
