Lady Bulldogs Drop Matches to Owensville, Hermann

St. Clair opened Four Rivers Conference play on the volleyball court with a pair of losses.
The Lady Bulldogs (2-9, 0-2) lost Tuesday at home to Owensville in three games and Thursday at Hermann in two.
Playing at home, St. Clair lost a hard-fought match Tuesday to Owensville, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19.
“It was a great game,” said St. Clair Head Coach Lane Cox. “The girls looked as good as I have seen them all season. We really came out ready to play.”
Sam Deason had a big match for St. Clair with 10 kills, three blocks and four service aces.
Ashley Fuchs collected four kills, five assists, five aces and two blocks. Sarah Baker added six kills and three aces.
Emily Rogers added 12 assists and one ace. Allison Hinson registered nine aces and three kills. Kayla Klenke had two kills. Shannon Duncan served four aces.
“Sam had a great match with 10 kills,” said Cox. Ashley stepped up and played both right side and middle at times.”
Michelle Wehmeyer led the Dutchgirls with nine kills and seven blocks. Katie Davis added five kills. Becky Dyer had 18 assists.
Owensville improved to 2-0 in the FRC with a win Thursday at home over Pacific, 25-22, 25-17.
St. Clair lost Thursday at Hermann, 25-11, 25-14.
Deason led the Lady Bulldogs with three kills.
“Sam played a quality game. She got a few touches at the net,” said Cox. “Ashley Fuchs also played a pretty consistent game.”
Hermann (8-6, 2-0) was led by Natalie Witte, who smashed eight kills.
Hannah Steinbeck added six kills and two blocks. Jamie Gleeson and Emilie Diebal both had two kills. Abby Witthaus finished with 17 assists.
Hermann won Tuesday at home over New Haven, 25-12, 25-22.
Laura Rethemeyer ended the match with nine kills, three aces and two blocks for the Lady Bearcats.
Steinbeck added seven kills and two blocks. Witte had five kills and two assists. Witthaus finished with 21 assists.
New Haven (12-6-1, 2-1) bounced back to win Thursday at Sullivan, 25-13, 25-12.
St. Clair plays Saturday at the Camdenton Tournament.
Hermann and New Haven both play next week at the Hermann Tournament, opening Monday in pool play contests.
