St. Clair Nets 19 Goals in Two Wins
April 14, 2014St Clair Athletics
It was just the tonic Ted Koenigsfeld and his St. Clair soccer Lady Bulldogs needed.
St. Clair (4-4, 1-3) rolled past Belle Tuesday, 10-0, and dominated St. James Thursday, 9-0.
“It took us a little bit to get going both games,” Koenigsfeld said. “It was the first time we had played on natural surfaces this year, so it took some time to get used to the pace of the ball. Once we did, things started going our way.”
In the Belle game, the Lady Bulldogs exploded for six second-half goals to win the game.
Heather Pendegraft led the charge with three goals and two assists.
Tori Martin was next with two goals and two assists.
Anna Merseal also netted two goals.
Mary York ended the game with one goal and one assist.
Kayla Barrett scored one goal. Morgan Spanos ended with an assist.
In the win over St. James, Pendegraft netted two goals.
Kelsey Lack also netted two goals.
Saracha Bunthoengsbook added one goal and two assists.
Martin, Barrett, York and Lucy Molkenbur each scored once.
Merseal had two assists and Halley Cokley added one assist.
Deason was in net and she stopped a penalty kick.
“Getting a conference win definitely was a booster,” Koenigsfeld said. “We’ve had a number of players step up. Tori Martin always plays hard. Kayla Barrett is starting to come into her own in the midfield. Morgan Spanos has been consistent at sweeper. And we have a solid supporting cast.”
We’re glad to have some success and we hope to build off of it.”
