St. Clair gave St. James a run for its money, but fell short in Four Rivers Conference boys basketball action Friday.

The Bulldogs (5-15, 2-3) had the game at St. James tied 36-36 after three quarters and had a chance in the final minute of regulation, but suffered a 53-46 setback.

“It was one of the best games we played all year outside of the first five minutes,” said St. Clair Head Coach Casey Korn. “We were down 10-0 and had to fight back the entire time.”

St. Clair threatened to take the lead late in the game.

“We got a look that we wanted with 48 seconds left to take the lead,” Korn said. “(Damon) Arnold got a good look at it, but it didn’t fall.”

St. James (16-6, 4-1) hit free throws in the closing seconds to secure the win.

The Tigers, who beat New Haven Saturday in overtime, held leads over the Bulldogs of 17-13 after one quarter and 30-24 at halftime.

Reno Jones led the way for St. Clair with 17 points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Damon Arnold finished with eight points and two rebounds.

Darrell Martin scored seven points. Spencer Crumbaugh netted five points.

Kevin Cox added four points and two rebounds. Keola Bursey had three points and two rebounds. Harley Love scored two points.

Ben Feddersen pulled down seven rebounds. Kyler Waldo had two assists. Terrance Stahman also played.

“I was happy with our all-around effort after that first run,” Korn said. “Reno did an awesome job keeping it close early. He stepped up at the right time.”

Addison Conway paced the Tigers with 16 points. Logan Courtois added 13 points. Cody Birkner and Elye Rogers both scored nine points.
