Bulldogs Fall Short at Cuba
January 31, 2014St Clair Athletics
Cuba pulled away in the second half to notch a boys basketball win Friday over St. Clair.
Leading 31-30 at halftime, the Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 45-31 in the second half for a 76-61 victory at Cuba High School.
“It seems like we’re falling into the same mistakes,” said St. Clair Head Coach Casey Korn. “We were in the game until about two minutes left. They hit a big three-pointer and then we forced them to make free throws, which they did.”
St. Clair (3-11) trailed 53-46 after three quarters, but couldn’t get over the top in the final eight minutes.
“We scored 61 points and shot close to 50 percent from the field. That should be enough to win games,” Korn said. “We need to do a better job of getting shots and not allowing live ball turnovers, which is killing our defensive numbers. We need to pick it up on the defensive end of the floor.”
Reno Jones led the way for St. Clair with 22 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
Damon Arnold finished with 14 points (three three-pointers) and four rebounds.
Kevin Cox collected seven points, three rebounds and two assists.
Darrell Martin netted six points.
Kyler Waldo and Keola Bursey both scored four points. Waldo added four assists. Bursey grabbed four rebounds.
Harley Love and Terrance Stahlman both scored two points. Love added five rebounds.
St. Clair is seeded sixth for this week’s Union Tournament.
