A low-scoring game turned out in St. Clair’s favor Thursday in a girls basketball contest at Northwest High School.

On a night where their offense struggled, the Lady Bulldogs relied on their defense in a 34-27 victory.

“It was a very slow-going game offensively for us,” said St. Clair Head Coach Jena Carroll. “We played really good defense. We had nine steals by halftime. But we struggled all night finishing and converting on the offensive end.”

The game was tied 6-6 after one quarter and Northwest held a 17-15 advantage at halftime.

St. Clair (5-7) outscored Northwest 19-10 in the second half, including 10-5 in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs led 24-22 heading into the final eight minutes.

Allison Hinson led St. Clair in the scoring column with 10 points.

Sam Deason finished the game with six points. Karissa Hoffman added five points.

Alicia York and Katelyn Guehne both netted four points. Emily Presley scored three points. Kelsey Wachter had two points.

St. Clair (0-1 in the Four Rivers Conference) visits Owensville Monday at 6 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs are seeded fifth for the Hermann Tournament, which runs Jan. 27-31. They open against fourth-seeded Chamois Monday, Jan. 27, at 7:30 p.m.
