October 24, 2013St Clair Athletics
St. Clair split a pair of Four Rivers Conference volleyball matches and dropped a non conference contest in recent action.
The Lady Bulldogs (9-15-2, 2-4) won Tuesday, Oct. 15, at home over St. James 25-20, 25-19 and lost Thursday, Oct. 17, at New Haven, 25-9, 25-13, and Monday, Oct. 21, at De Soto, 25-23, 25-11.
St. Clair hosts Pacific Tuesday and plays at Hillsboro Thursday.
For the Class 3 District 8 Tournament, St. Clair is seeded fifth and opens against fourth-seeded Sullivan Monday, Oct. 28, at 5 p.m. at Union High School.
St. Clair won Tuesday at home over St. James.
“Overall, we played pretty well. We were moving our feet and talking. We tried to be aggressive on every play we had,” said St. Clair Head Coach Ashley Mims. “St. James kept us on our toes, which was good for us because we have been working on constant movement.”
Sam Deason finished the match with nine kills. Macy Levvintre added five kills and six points.
Allison Hinson led St. Clair in digs with six and had five points. Hannah Krouper had five. Emily Presley added three.
Miranda Murphy collected 10 assists. Abby Ruck and Kelsey Wachter both had four assists.
Katelyn Guehne served 13 points, including two aces.
The Lady Shamrocks (20-10, 5-1) cruised to a home victory Thursday over St. Clair.
“At the beginning of the game, St. Clair had several blocks against us. I thought our hitters did a nice job of adjusting and Mackenzy (Vedder) started moving the ball around more,” said New Haven Head Coach Jaime Hoener. “It was nice to see that we were able to change things up quickly and still be successful.”
Rachel Steinhoff finished with nine kills for New Haven. Taylor Covington added five kills. Emily Kallmeyer had four kills.
Megan Shockley collected four kills and one block. Kayla Meyer had two aces.
Deason had five kills and three blocks for St. Clair. Guehne and Ruck both added three kills. Hinson had two blocks.
Krouper finished with four digs. Presley had three digs. Murphy registered seven assists. Wachter had five assists.
The Lady Bulldogs lost Monday at De Soto.
“We played well in the first game. We moved, covered and did the things we were supposed to do,” Mims said. “Their No. 9 (Kelsey Kingsland) is a really good player. She placed the ball wherever she wanted.”
Hinson and Deason both finished with three kills. Deason also had two blocks. Guehne added two kills.
Krouper collected four digs. Murphy finished with four assists. Wachter had two assists.
