Lady Bulldogs Play in St. James Jamboree
August 28, 2013St Clair Athletics
St. Clair registered a win, a loss and a tie at its softball jamboree last Saturday in St. James.
The Lady Bulldogs lost to St. James 7-6, defeated Hermann 14-0 and played to a scoreless tie against Union.
Each scrimmage was a three-inning contest.
“I was very pleased with what we saw Saturday in St. James. We received several comments that we looked like the most improved team,” said St. Clair Head Coach Rob Hauck. “We were fortunate in that we had no serious injuries, which occurred on a few of the other teams. Our team really did well and continued our strategies with each player fulfilling the role they have.”
Offense should be the Lady Bulldogs’ strength this season.
“Our hitting really stood out. We were able to make some good contact throughout the day,” Hauck said. “Standouts were Karissa Hoffman with her defensive play and Kelsey Lack with her pitching. Against St. James, our first two pitchers struggled and did not let the defense work. But when Lack came in the last two games, she threw strikes and let the defense play for her. Our pitching still needs to be more consistent, but we saw a lot of promise.”
Hauck likes the potential of the Lady Bulldogs.
“I’m very excited about how we played and the direction our team is going,” Hauck said. “My thoughts of how tough we will be were confirmed and the girls showed me we have the bats to play with anyone.”
St. Clair opens its season Wednesday at Wright City at 5 p.m.
