After losing to Sullivan last week, the St. Clair Bulldogs couldn’t wait to get back onto the field. And St. Clair (4-1) won easily at Union (1-4) Friday, 42-0. The Bulldogs didn’t need much time to jump on the scoreboard. After watching a Union touchdown called back on a penalty, St. Clair scored on its first play from scrimmage. Kyle Juergens found Adam Brott on the left side and Brott cut back to the opposite side of the field for an 80-yard touchdown with 7:30 to play in the first quarter. Jacob Meisel kicked the extra point to make it 7-0. St. Clair appeared to score on its next play, but had a touchdown called back on a penalty. The Bulldogs got a 16-yard touchdown run by Juergens. Meisel’s kick made it 14-0 with 4:04 to go in the quarter. The Bulldogs made it 21-0 with a third first-quarter touchdown. Blake Dierking took a Juergens pass 31 yards for a score with 1:30 left in the first quarter. Meisel’s kick made it 21-0. In the second quarter, Brott intercepted a Blake Hulsey pass and returned it 31 yards for a touchdown with 9:55 left in the half. Meisel’s kick made it 28-0, which is how the half ended after both teams bogged down through the remainder of the quarter. Union was able to get into St. Clair territory, through moving the ball, penalties or an interception, but couldn’t find the secret to put points on the board. The halftime score was 28-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. In the third quarter, St. Clair continued to dominate the scoring while Union had some success moving the ball. Juergens broke free for an 83-yard run just 47 seconds into the third quarter and Meisel’s kick activated the running clock, 35-0. Rickey Grivetti capped scoring for the Bulldogs with a 28-yard run with 18.4 seconds left in the third quarter. Meisel’s kick made it 42-0. St. Clair had two touchdowns in the game called back on penalties. The other came on a run by Josh Martin in the fourth quarter. Union had one called back. Evan Powell intercepted two passes for St. Clair. Dierking left the game early with an injury. St. Clair visits St. James next Friday. Union hosts De Soto.
