An early start to the game and steady showers early in the contest did not slow St. Clair down during its football contest Friday at De Soto High School.
The Bulldogs (2-0) scored early and often in a 55-13 victory over the Dragons.
De Soto (1-1) had serious issues holding on to the football during the first half, fumbling seven times and losing five of them.
Meanwhile, St. Clair had no such issues with turnovers.
Bulldogs quarterback Kyle Juergens threw two touchdown passes and ran for another.
Rickey Grivetti scored three touchdowns, two rushing and one receiving.
St. Clair’s defense also got in on the fun with a touchdown.
The Bulldogs held leads of 20-0 after one quarter, 35-6 at halftime and 49-13 after three quarters.
First-quarter touchdowns were scored by Adam Brott on a two-yard run with 8:01 left on the clock, Juergens on a 21-yard dash with 6:21 left and Grivetti on an 18-yard run with 4:48 remaining.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs increased their lead to 28-0 when Juergens and Grivetti hooked up for a 17-yard touchdown pass with 10:01 left on the clock.
The Dragons got on the scoreboard with 2:36 left in the second quarter on a two-yard touchdown run by Conor Haas to make the score 28-6.
St. Clair increased its lead to 35-6 with 40 seconds left in the second quarter on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Juergens to Blake Dierking.
The domination continued in the third quarter for the Bulldogs as they increased their lead to 49-6.
Grivetti raced 67 yards for a score with 11:01 left in the quarter to make the score 42-6.
It was then the defense’s turn as Skyler Hutchison returned a fumble 30 yards for a touchdown with 9:46 left to increase the lead to 49-6.
De Soto made the score 49-13 on a 12-yard touchdown run by Austin Hayes with 5:20 left in the third quarter.
The scoring ended with 9:36 remaining in the fourth quarter when St. Clair’s Josh Martin scored on a 25-yard touchdown run to make the score 55-13.
The Bulldogs play their home and Four Rivers Conference opener Friday in week three against Pacific.
