St. Clair opened its boys soccer season Monday with a 3-2 victory over Hancock at Heine Meine. The Bulldogs (1-0) trailed 2-0 at halftime, but scored three times in the second half to escape with the victory. “We played very well, especially on the offensive half of the ball. In the second half, our passes were more accurate and we found the open spaces and gaps,” said St. Clair Head Coach Ted Koenigsfeld. “It’s good to get the first win out of the way. There’s still room for improvement.” St. Clair’s first goal was scored when Jacob Meisel booted a corner kick to Tanner Wideman, who knocked it into the net. The Bulldogs tied the game when Miguel Aguirre played a through ball to Spencer Crumbaugh for a breakaway goal. St. Clair took a 3-2 lead with three minutes remaining in the second half when Meisel scored on a penalty kick. The penalty kick was set up when Crumbaugh played a ball to Braydon Roberts, who was taken out from behind. Reno Jones played all 80 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs. “Chris Kahlenbeck played an outstanding game at sweeper. He did a great job communicating and controlling the defense,” Koenigsfeld said. “Spencer Crumbaugh played with good ball control and moved well without the ball.”
