Springfield Middle School 7th Graders Place 2nd in NLL Tournament

The Springfield Middle School Eight Grade Girls were eliminated before this writer could get to Anthony Wayne High School.

The Seventh Grade Girls lasted a little longer as they first played a Tough Sylvania Timberstone team as Akienreh Johnson used her height to smash several spikes back and the Sylvania team to win two close games 18 - 25 and 23 - 25.

In their Second match against Bowling Green it was a little easier for the MS team as they won 16 - 25 and 15 - 25. Again there was strong net play but this time it was the set-up people that did the job. Michaelle Foltz set-up Lexi Powhida and Mya Watkins.

The third game seemed to be the downfall for the Devils. A very strong Perrysburg team took the floor and it looked like this would be a blow-out for the Jacket as the ran off 12 straight points before the Devils even got on the board final score was Perrysburg 25, Springfield 9.

It was turn-a-round time for the Devils as this time the Devils jumped out to a 9-0 lead on strong serving from Michelle Foltz. This game came right down to the end with the Devils winning 25 - 22. Again Mya Watkins had a very strong game.

In the third set the Jackets started strong with very little defense on the Devils part. When the Devils coachs found a nice combination of players with Rachel Burns being inserted as the Server it looked like the Devils were going to come back. Only to lose once again by a score of 25 to 10.
