'CATS 9 INDIANS 2
April 23, 2014Splendora High School
CLEVELAND, Tx - The Splendora Wildcats beat the Cleveland Indians 9-2 on Tuesday night. Splendora has swept the series season against Cleveland in at least the last 4 seasons.
Splendora began the game with textbook baseball when leadoff man Connor Phillips doubled to left-center. Aaron Smalley stepped up to the dish and singled home Phillips and Splendora led, 1-0. DH Dave Rauch delivered a SAC fly to center to move Smalley to 3rd with 1 out. Ty Nixon then hit a dep SAC fly to center for an RBI and Splendora led 2-0 in the top half of the 1st inning.
Cleveland would tie the score in the bottom of the 1st on 0 hits. Wildcat pitcher Justin Reid had a rough start, walking 5 Indian hitters, while striking out 1 and throwing out a runner at first. Kam Levis came on in relief and got the final out of the inning.
The game remained tied at 2 until the 4th, when Casey Barron laced a single to left. Kolby Reed came up and hit a ground ball to shortstop Baker, who mishandled the ball, allowing Barron to score. After 4 innings, Splendora led, 3-2.
The game remained tight as Wildcat pitcher Levis and Indian pitcher Stucky locked up in a middle inning pitcher's duel. However, in the top of the 7th, the Wildcat bats got hot...scorching hot. Shortstop Diego Prieto (who made 3 web gems during the game) came up and smacked an over the head double to left field to lead off the inning. Connor Phillips sacrificed Prieto over to 3rd. Smalley ripped a single to right to score Prieto. Rauch then smoked a ball up the middle to score Smalley. The 'Cats were just getting started. Up steps Nixon. Ty popped a double again over the left fielder's head to score Rauch. Matt Jacquinot came through with a RBI single. Then, Kam Levis lined a single to left. The final run of the inning was plated after a pinch hitting Brandon Wilson hit a SAC fly to center field.
The Wildcats improve to 18-4 on the season and 10-1 in District 22-3A play and find themselves ranked #22 in the State of Texas in 3A. The Cats travel to Shepherd to play the Pirates on Friday.
