Splendora Tomahawks Indians, 15-5
March 26, 2014Splendora High School
SPLENDORA, Tx - The Splendora Wildcats used 10 hits, including multiple hits from Matt Adams, Ty Nixon & Cole Jenkins to Run-rule the Cleveland Indians 15-5 on Tuesday at Wildcat Ballpark.
The Wildcats scored 3 runs in the first as leadoff hitter Connor Phillips smashed a ground ball off the chest of the Indian's Jay McCain to get things rolling. Aaron Smalley (Centerfielder) then hit a single up the middle and first baseman Dave Rauch walked. After a Nixon flyout, Kolby Reed got plunked by Smith of Cleveland (Reed has been hit by pitch an astounding 11 times in his high school career vs Cleveland). Matt Adams then delivered a 2 RBI single and the 'Cats led 3-0 after one inning of play.
Splendora would score 4 runs in the third inning with Rauch, Nixon, Adams and Cole Jenkins scoring, making it 7-0. Cleveland would get on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning. Daniels delivered a single to lead off the inning. Splendora pitcher Justin Reid hit a rough spot in his outing, walking 3 batters to score Daniels before coaxing Smith to a fly ball to Smalley in centerfield for the third out.
Splendora would counter with a 5 run fourth inning. Nixon and Adams laced singles and the big blows of the inning were doubles delivered by Brandon Wilson and Phillips. Jenkins and the Cleveland defense provided a little comedy relief on this cool night. Jenkins hit a ball in the hole between third base and shortstop and coming out of the batter's box, stumbled like he was running on a buttered pan, fell down, recovered, scrambled to his feet and sprinted to first base...meanwhile, Cleveland had its own troubles - handling the baseball like a dropped ice cube. Jenkins would make it to first base for one of the strangest base hits you'll ever see.
With the score being 12-1 entering the fifth and final inning, the Indians plated 4 runs on a couple of Wildcat errors and a Mccain double. The Wildcats would score 3 more times in the bottom of the fifth as Nixon walked, Reed got hit in the back (for the 3rd time), and Jenkins hit a walk-off single to left to end the 10-run ruled game.
Pitcher Justin Reid picked up his 3rd win on the season against 1 loss. Reid fanned 6 Indian hitters.
The 'Cats are now 13-3 on the season and in 1st place in District 22-3A with a 5-0 record. The Wildcats host Coldspring on Friday night with first pitch set for 7:00 pm.
Other district scores: Huffman 4, Liberty 0 and Tarkington 12, Coldspring 2.
