SPLENDORA, Tx - The Wildcat baseball team rallied from a 5-2 deficit, to score 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to secure a District 22-3A victory over the Tarkington Longhorns by a final score of 12-5 at Wildcat Ballpark.

Pitcher Matt Jacquinot ran his record to 4-0 with the win, striking out 9 Longhorn hitters while walking only 1.  It wasn't easy as Jacquinot battled through the 3rd and 4th innings, allowing 3 hits and a base on balls.  Three costly Wildcat errors didn't help matters, but the Sr righty calmed the waters by turning a leadoff Longhorn single in the top of the 5th into a 1-6-3 double play ball.  The 'Cats have turned 9 double plays this season. Jacquinot surrendered 6 hits and only 2 earned runs.

Splendora scored 4 more runs in the bottom of the 6th as Connor Phillips was hit by a pitch to start the inning.  after a balk, Dave Rauch laced a single up the middle. Kolby Reed walked to load the bases.  Third baseman Ty Nixon popped up on the infield fly rule. Then, Jacquinot, Casey Barron and Justin Reid hit consecutive RBI singles.  Diego Prieto (who had a double earlier in the game) hit a deep fly ball to left center field for a sacrifice fly RBI, scoring the final Wildcat run.

A couple of collisions in the game. First, when 1st baseman Reid was hit by Longhorn Chase Greenland on an errant Splendora throw.  The second collision occured on a late slide at the plate.  Freshman catcher Kam Levis, appeared to have hung on, but the baseball squirted out of his glove.  Both players are okay.

Rauch and Jacquinot led the Wildcats at the plate, with 2 hits each.  The Wildcats slapped out 10 hits on the afternoon, including 4 doubles by Rauch, Aaron Smalley, Reed and Prieto.

The Wildcats are now 10-3 on the season and 2-0 in District 22-3A play.  The 'Cats take to the diamond again on Saturday in a 1:00pm contest at Willis before returning to district play on Tuesday at Huffman.
