Wildcats Go 3-1 in Franklin Tourney

FRANKLIN, Tx - The Splendora Wildcats beat Hempstead, 7-0 in their third game of the Franklin Tournament on Saturday.   It was Splendora's 5th shutout of the year.

     Pitcher Matt Adams went the distance for the Wildcats, allowing 2 hits in the slippery conditions.  Adams struck out 6 and plunked 3 hitters.

     The Wildcats scored 6 runs in the 1st inning as Dave Rauch and Diego Prieto hit doubles and Adams ripped a single.  Splendora's Connor Phillips blasted a solo Home Run in the 6th (his first career HR) to end the scoring.  Aaron Smalley clubbed a double in the 5th, his third of the year.

     In the 'Cats 4th game of the tournament, Splendora hit a rough spot in the road, committing 5 errors vs Bosqueville, losing 10-5.   The Wildcats outhit the Bulldogs, 6 hits to 5, however, there were just too many mistakes made to overcome the Bulldogs big 4th inning.

     Splendora's Ty Nixon had a monster game at the plate, belting 2 Home Runs.  The senior smacked a 2 run bomb in the 4th inning and added another 2 run no-doubter in the 6th, to tally 4 RBI on the night.  Rauch, Reed and Smalley had doubles for Splendora. 

     Smalley leads Splendora with 4 doubles and 3 triples on the year.  Smalley also leads in stolen bases with 12.  Dave Rauch leads the Wildcats in batting average at .411, followed by Nixon at .406.  Rauch leads in RBI with 12, followed by Nixon with 11, Phillips with 9 and Diego Prieto with 7.

     The Wildcats get back to District 22-3A action, hosting the Tarkington Longhorns on Tuesday.  First pitch is set for approximately 1:30 pm. Both teams are 1-0 in District play.
