WILDCAT BOYS SOCCER DEFEATS HARDIN-JEFFERSON 3-2

March 1, 2014
By Tim Gillespie of Splendora High School

2/28/14

FRIDAY NIGHT THE WILDCAT BOYS TOOK ON THE UPSET MINDED HARDIN-JEFFERSON HAWKS IN WILDCAT STADIUM.  THE CATS SCORED THE FIRST 2 GOALS OF THE MATCH AS JULIO HERNANDEZ FOUND THE NET TWICE ON ASSISTS BY LUIS GARCIA AND ERIC SERRANO. THE CATS ATTACKED MUCH OF THE FIRST HALF AND THE HJ GOALKEEPER KEPT THE MATCH FROM TURING INTO A WILDCAT ROUT AS HE MADE MANY SAVES FOR THE HAWKS. HJ STAYED IN THE MATCH WITH A LATE GOAL IN THE FIRST HALF. INTERMISSION WOULD FIND THE CATS ON TOP 2-1. BOTH TEAMS FOUGHT TENACIOUSLY IN THE OPENING MINUTES OF THE SECOND HALF AND HJ BROKE THE WILDCAT DEFENSE WITH A SCORE AND THE GAME WAS TIED AT 2-2. THE WILDCATS AT THAT POINT WENT TO WORK AND WITH 10 MINUTES LEFT IN REGULATION LEFT-MIDFIELDER JORGE GARCIA BROKE THROUGH THE HAWKS DEFENSE AND SENT HOME THE GAME WINNER. THE WILDCATS HELD ON AND SECURED THE 3-2 HARD FOUGHT VICTORY. SPLENDORA IS NOW 9-0-0 IN DISTRICT PLAY AND HAVE NOW WON 10 GAMES IN A ROW. WITH THE VICTORY THE WILDCAT BOYS HAVE SECURED THE DISTRICT 37-4A DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW. 3 MATCHES REMAIN IN DISTRICT PLAY, BEGINNING TUESDAY WITH A ROAD TRIP TO JASPER FOR A 7 p.m. MATCH. THE BI-DISTRICT MATCH WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT A LATER DATE. GO WILDCAT SOCCER!!!!!!
