'Cats Drop A Twinbill In Don Newcomb Tourney

March 1, 2014
Splendora High School

Don Newcomb Tournament - The Splendora Wildcats dropped a pair of games on Friday to Porter (5-2) and New Caney (7-5).

In game #1 vs Porter, Splendora managed only 4 hits. Aaron Smalley had 2 of those, including a gapper triple to right-center field.  Pitcher Justin Reid suffered his first loss of the season.  Porter's John Bowen had a RBI single to lead them at the plate. Sr lefty pitcher, Ty Ewart notched the win.

In game #2, Splendora jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st, but saw that lead evaporate in the 5th.  Leading 5-3 heading into the bottom of 5, New Caney would score 4 times to take a 2 run lead with the help of 3 hits and a costly Wildcat error on a potential double play ball.  Splendora's Josh Mendez was saddled with the loss, while New Caney's, Michael Henk picked up the win.

Splendora is now 4-2 on the season and play Houston Aldine in the morning at 10:00 am.
