Wildcats Beat Livingston & Silsbee

February 15, 2014
By Tim Gillespie of Splendora High School

Wednesday 2/12/14 - The Wildcats traveled to Livingston to take on the district rival Livingston Lions. The Wildcats played most of the night a man down due to a card violation in the 19th minute of play. The Wildcats would adjust!  Playing to a scoreless tie at 0-0 in regulation the match went into two 10 minute overtime periods.  The Cats controlled the ball throughout the match, but could not find the net until striker Chris Melendez beat the Lion defense and ripped the ball to the side of the net at the 4th minute of the 1st OT period giving the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage. The first OT period ended with the Cats on top. The 2nd OT period saw the Lion defense fight and claw to keep the Lions off-balance. Keeper Saul Soria and the back four of Abe Lopez, Gabriel Luna, Josue Santos and Christian Acosta would not let the Lions get a good look at goal and the Wildcats held on for the 1-0 win.  100 minutes of play-off style futbol!

Friday, 2/24/14 - The Wildcats, playing at home sweet home in Wildcat Stadium hosted the Silsbee Tigers Friday evening.  The Cats fresh off a 100 minute marathon on Wednesday showed their endurance by attacking the Tigers all evening. Chris Melendez found the net in the 1st half to give the Cats a 1-0 halftime lead.  The team that controlls the mid-field generally controls the game, and the Wildcats did just that. Julio Hernandez, Ramiro Ortuno, Jose Zepeda and Luis (Peanut) Garcia would keep the Wildcats pushing forward and never let the Tigers in the game. Goal-Keeper Saul Soria had 4 nice saves to secure the win. Luis Garcia scored the second goal mid-way through the second half givng the Cats the 2-0 victory and a 6-0 start in district play.

The Wildcats next opponet will be the Libety Panthers at Wildcat Stadium on Friday, Feburary 21st at 7:00 p.m. The Wildcat JV (4-2-0) will play at 5:00 p.m. Go Wildcats !!!!
