Wildcats Kick-Off Cat Cup Tourney

January 10, 2014
By Tim Gillespie of Splendora High School

The Wildcat Boy's Varsity soccer team kicked off their 3 day soccer tournament on Thursday with an impressive 5 to 2 victory over the Vidor Pirates in Willis, TX.  Playing in a constant downpour of rain, the boys built a 3 to 1 half-time lead with 2 scores from Christopher Melendez and a score from Eric Serrano. In the second half the boys build a 5 to 1 advantage before allowing a late goal. Luis Garcia and Jorge Garcia (no relation) scored for the Cats. The defense led by Saul Soria, Tate Funkhowser, Abraham Lopez and Gabriel Luna battled the elements and kept Vidor out of the danger areas. Solid midfeld play by Julio Hernandez, Luis Garcia and Ramiro Ortuno kept the Wildcats controlling the ball (and the game). The tournament continues this afternoon, weather permitting, with a 3 p.m. match against C.E. King high school at the Dutch Lions complex in Conroe.  Go Cats!!
