Boy's JV & Varsity vs. Kingwood Park
January 8, 2014By Tim Gillespie of Splendora High School
The Wildcats traveled to Kingwood Park Tuesday night to take on the storied Kingwood Park Panthers in a non-district friendly match. The JV team opened the night with a strong performance. Down 2-1 at halftime the Wildcats came storming back with 3 second half goals to claim an impressive 4-2 victory. Goal scorers for the Wildcats were: Jonathan Rodriguez, Victor Garcia, Aldair Guerrero and Yeudiel Santos. Goalkeepers Joel Santos and Daniel Moreno were solid all evening. Sweeper back Andres Garcia turned in a strong defensive performance. The Varsity squad took to the pitch for the second half of the doubleheader. The Wildcats struck first with a beautiful strike by Daniel Ugalde after receiving a terrific pass from Chris Melendez. The goal was disallowed on a questionable off-sides call. Video tape review was not available so the call had to stand. The Panthers scored the next 2 first half goals before Eric Serrano cut the lead in half with a difficult shot from the right corner making the first half score 2-1 in favor of the Panthers. Both teams batteled through the second half taking turns possessing the ball. The Wildcats could not cash in on any goal scoring opportunities and the match ended with KP taking it 2-1. The Wildcats played with a lot of heart and energy on this cold evening. Next the Wildcat Varsity will travel to Willis, TX and play in the Kat Cup. On Thursday they will play the Vidor Pirates at 1:00 p.m. On Friday they will play Kingwood Park again at 3:00 p.m. On Saturday the opponet will be Bryan. The match will be at 11:00 a.m. It's going to be a great week of soccer in Wildcat land!
