SJHS vs. Tarkington
November 1, 2013By Kevin Grider of Splendora High School
7th Grade B 0-0
Splendora started the game out on offense. We moved the ball well at first but were unable to come away with a first down which put our defense on the field. They were only out there for one play because Jonathon Villyard came away with the fumble recovery giving our offense another chance. The Wildcat offense was then able to push their way to the 2 yard line. Unfortunately we dropped the ball and did not score. Our defense finished up the first half and had to start out the second half. Again, they were not on the field long because our defensive line fired off the ball and caused disruption in the backfield. Tarkington could not handle it and fumbled the ball. Jonathon Villyard recovered the ball for the second time. Our defense didn’t allow any points but our offense was unable to score so the game ended in a tie.
8th Grade B 14-0
The Wildcats hit the ground running and never stopped. Our defense held Tarkington the first series which put our offense on the field. The offensive line created a massive lane for Greg Ramirez on the first play. He finished the play off by scoring on a 60 yard run. In the second half, J.D. Anderson was able to put up more points for the Wildcats giving us a total of 14. The defense never gave any ground and held Tarkington to 0 points which gave us a victory for the night.
7th Grade A 6-22
It was a close game in the first half. The offense fought hard allowing Jessie Paris to score which put the Wildcats in the lead. Our defense was unable to hold Tarkington off as they scored the following series. Tarkington then scored on another run later in the half putting us behind as we went into halftime. In the second half our offense would have their backs against the wall on multiple 4th and long situations. They did not fold though. Jacob Bullock came away with big time catches allowing our offense to stay on the field. We were unable to put anymore points on the board for the night. The boys took the loss hard which shows that they are going to come to practice with intensity so we can beat Huffman.
8th Grade A 14-22
It was a hard fought battle all the way to the very end. In the first half, Zach Gustafson caught a pass on the 1 yard line setting up a touchdown run by Hunter Blake. Tarkington then scored on a pass the following series tying the game at 6. Shortly after Lance Connell had an 80 yard run to the 5 yard line. Jonathon Prather was able to punch it in the end zone. Noah Dain then ran the ball in for the 2 point conversion giving us the lead. Tarkington then scored on another pass as the time expired in the first half. They converted the 2 point conversion tying the game at 14. The defense and offense held their ground the second half but we made a couple of costly errors that made the difference in the game. We were by far a better team but we beat ourselves.
