Freshman Wildcats Dominate Panthers

LIBERTY, Tx - The Splendora Wildcat Freshmen Football Team routed the Liberty Panthers yesterday by a score of 20-0. Splendora held the Panther offense to just 9 total yards for the contest.
The 'Cat defense was stellar as they registered 11 plays for negative yardage. Led by linebacker Ryan Roebuck, who had 5 tackles, an interception and a punt block, the defense clamped down on the Panther running game, which finished the game with negative 19 yards. Liberty passed for 28 yards, going 3-8.
Kameron Levis and Gordon Moore knocked down passes in the secondary, while Rocky Anderson, Emmett Champagne, RJ Gornick-Kaizer, David Thackery, and Matthew Little had big days defensively for Splendora. The Liberty QB was under constant pressure, supplied by Riley Hulsey and the rest of the defensive line of the Wildcats.
On offense, the 'Cats ran 22 times for 124 yards. Dillon Vickers carried the pigskin 7 times for 74 yards and a touchdown and also caught a pass for 9 yards. Running back Jay McCain toted the rock 8 times for 29 yards and Asa Spade had a 13 yard run in the 4th quarter.
Quarterback Abel Vidaurri completed 4 passes out of 5 attempts for 38 yards and a touchdown to slot receiver, Moore. Spade also caught a pass good for 12 yards.
The Wildcats struck with 3:53 left in the 1st quarter when QB Vidaurri found an open Moore. The PAT attempt was no good and the Wildcats led 6-0. After the Panthers turned the ball over on downs, Splendora marched 41 yards in 6 plays, the touchdown coming on a 5 yard run by Vickers with timely blocking from Blake Caster, Luis Garcia and Brandon West. The two point conversion was good when Vidaurri connected with Brandon Brogran on a 3 yard pass. With 9:16 left before the half, Splendora led 14-0.
Seth Mericle, Josh Finklea, Nickolas Gaunce, Blake Caster and Tyler Johnson helped pave the way for Spade and McCain in the second half. Tyler Johns and Thackery were impressive in the return game for the Wildcats, as Thackery returned 2 punts for 51 yards.
The Wildcats final score came on a 67 yard kick off return for a touchdown to open the 3rd quarter. Liberty kicked the ball into the waiting arms of Wildcat return man, Johns. Johns bobbed, weaved, then sprinted his way 67 yards for a Splendora touchdown. Final score: Splendora 20, Liberty 0.
The Wildcats take to the field again next Thursday at Wildcat Stadium when the Cleveland Indians rolls into town. Kickoff is at 5:00 p.m.
