SPLENDORA, Tx - Too little too late for Splendora in yesterday's second game at Wildcat Stadium. After surrendering 22 first half points, Splendora JV mounted a comeback, scoring 12 second half points enroute to a 22-12 loss to the visiting Huntington Red Devils.
Splendora's running game was held in check the first half. The Wildcats had a first and goal from the 2 (down 8-0), and after 2 QB sneaks and a lead, the Wildcat's 4th down pass fell harmlessly incomplete and the Red Devils held, ending the 1st quarter.
Huntington scored twice in the second stanza on a pair of runs, the first which covered 16 yards. At halftime, Splendora had dug themselves a hole, down by 22.
The Wildcats opened the 2nd half excited to play football. Splendora was flying around on defense and the Wildcats, John Kelly raced 77 yards for Splendora's first touchdown of the night with 1:51 left in the 3rd quarter. Quarterback Zach Zweifel threw a stop route to Ricardo Quintero, who pitched the ball backwards to a streaking Kelly who outran the Red Devil secondary for the 'Cats longest scoring play of the young season.
This fired the Wildcats up. On Huntington's next possession (49 seconds later), Splendora's Tommy Collins jarred the ball loose from the Red Devils running back and Hunter Carslile scooped up the pigskin and raced 27 yards for the Wildcats second touchdown to get the Wildcats within 10, at 22-12.
