Wildcats Defeat Silsbee

February 24, 2013
By Luis Cabrera of Splendora High School

The Wildcat soccer team took the pitch versus Silsbee Saturday afternoon. This encounter would determine first place in the district standings. Splendora spent most of the first half, and indeed much of the match, camped in the Tiger half thanks to a dominant midfield display but despite many chances they had to wait until the last seconds of the 40th minute for Alejandro Ruiz's sweetly-struck opener into the middle of the net. Luis Garcia made sure of the three points with a right-footed penalty kick missile five minutes into the second half. The Wildcat defense and Midfield did great in challenging loose balls and stopping Silsbee's talented midfielder. Ricky Estrada had his 4th clean-sheet of the season. The Wildcats take on Hardin-Jefferson Friday March 1st.
