LadyCats Take 4th Place at Tournament
January 19, 2013
By Jeff McGuire of Splendora High SchoolAfter winning their opening match on Thursday night, the LadyCats dropped their next two matches to host Porter and Aldine Nimitz. The LadyCats were dominated by a very strong Porter team in the Friday afternoon match. "Porter is one of the toughest girls' teams in the greater Houston area and they showed their skill against us today," said coach McGuire. "We were out-hustled, out-skilled, and obviously out-coached today."
The LadyCats came out much stronger in the Aldine Nimitz match. While the end result was still a loss, the LadyCats were very much in the match, traiiling 2-1 through the 60th minute. Lindsey Papuga was able to convert a penalty kick for the lone LadyCat's goal. Unfortunately, the final twenty minutes showed Aldine Nimitz put on a show as they scored 4 times resulting in a final score of 6-1. "Considering that Aldine Nimitz is a large 5A school with many years of soccer experience, I was very proud of our team hanging in with them as long as we did," said coach McGuire. "Playing these larger and tougher schools will truly help us in preparing for district play next month."
The 4-4 LadyCats travel to CE King on Tuesday to take on the Lady Panthers. The JV match begins at 5:00pm and the varsity match at 7:00. Go LadyCat soccer!
