The LadyCats traveled just a few miles south to face New Caney on Monday night. After holding the host Lady Eagles scoreless for the first 70 minutes, New Caney finally broke through for the lone goal of the match. The LadyCats almost got the equalizer on a breakaway by senior forward Clarisa Ochoa, but the New Caney goalkeeper barely beat her to the ball.
Coaches McGuire and Nixon saw some promising sights on the field last night. "While we did not play one of our better matches of the season, it was encouraging to see the girls continue to battle and keep the team in the match. New Caney is a proven program with many years of experience. The fact that we were able to stay competitive in the match speaks volumes to the progress we have made in just our second year," said coach McGuire.
"Much of our activity has to center on keeping the ball moving," said coach Nixon. To that end, goalkeeping duties have been shared by sophomore Lindsey Papuga and junior Melissa Parker. "Melissa is one of our better athletes, and Lindsey can be a real asset on the field," said coach McGuire. The LadyCats will continue to improve using this platoon system.
The LadyCats next take the field in the "Shoot for Glory Tournament" in Porter beginning on Thursday. Our Thursday match begins at 4:40pm against district rival Liberty. Come on out to support your LadyCats in action!
