Freshmen Wildcats
August 25, 2012
By Nate Perrone of Splendora High SchoolThe Freshmen Splendora Wildcats Football Team closed out the preseason with a scrimmage game against the New Caney Eagles.
The dark skies covering Don Ford Stadium were matched with a strong showing by the Wildcats defense. The defensive line repeatedly attacked the line of scrimmage and provided constant pressure on the offense. The freshmen also demonstrated superior team defense by running to the ball & quickly closing off running lanes. Overall understanding of position assignments continues to improve as the team works hard on the practice field.
The offense made contributions to the game by fulfilling the offense's top priority, ball security. The running backs made large gains as the scrimmage progressed, supported by the powerful downfield blocking of the offensive line. The receiver corps got into the mix by reeling in passes from both quarterbacks and fighting for yards after the catch. The future of Wildcats football is on display, don't miss their next outing at Hamshire-Fannett.
