Wausau – SPASH out classed Wausau West in every aspect of the game played between the two Valley Conference teams on Thursday as they cruised to a 58-24 victory.  Not only did SPASH win the game, but they also won the Wisconsin Valley Conference outright with an impeccable 11-1 record.  They won both meetings against defending Valley champions D.C. Everest while their only loss came at the hands of Marshfield in a tough away game.  The Panthers finished their season 20-2, good enough to seal them in as the #3 seed in the regional.  Look at the tournament bracket for more details on game times and locations.

SPASH showed that they were not only an offensive juggernaut, but a defensive threat to reckon with as well.  They held Wausau West to just 2 points in the first quarter and 7 in the half while they put up 26 in that same span.  The Panthers combination of fast-paced offense and a long, pesky defense will be essential to making a deep run in the playoffs.

Wausau showed signs of life in the third quarter and actually outscored SPASH 12-11, but the Panthers put the dreams of any kind of a comeback to rest.  They absolutely dominated the fourth, showing why they are one of the top offensive teams in the state by dropping 21 points.  Defensively, they finished off the game just as they started it by holding the Warriors to 5 points.

SPASH was led in scoring, as it has been most of the season, by Trevor Anderson, who dropped 21 points.  George Diekelman also aided the effort with 10.  Wausau West was led by Taylor Penn who put up a respectable 10 points.

SPASH will face off against #6 seed Appleton West in the first round of regional tournament play.  West Finished 9-9 in the Fox Valley Association Conference who also produced the #1 seed in the regional, Oshkosh North.  The game will take place on Friday, February 22nd at SPASH.

SPASH Scoring – Anderson 21,  Diekelman 10,  Zelhofer 7,  Van Helden 6,  Hauser 5,  Sullivan 5,  Sprecher-Katzmarek 2,  Griffith 2

Wausau West Scoring – Penn 10,  Fischer 6,  Raeder 3,  Utecht 3,  Schertz 2,
