File photo CWS Sports Desk January 25, 2013 Stevens Point– Facing their first Valley opponent since defeating DC Everest last Friday, the SPASH girls basketball team continued to roll as they soundly defeated Wausau East 57-25. With the win, SPASH holds on to first place in the Valley Conference with a 6-1 record and a one game lead over second place Wausau West. Ten of SPASH’s players broke into the scoring column. SPASH was led by Haley Kolbeck’s 17 points. Kolbeck was 7-10 from two point range and also had five rebounds. Taylor Smola added 14 points for SPASH on 6-11 shooting. Smola grabbed six rebounds to lead SPASH on the boards. Heather Woyak also grabbed five rebounds for SPASH. SPASH used an early offensive burst to take control of the game in the first quarter. The Panthers outscored Wausau East 18-4 in the first quarter and took a 30-12 lead into halftime. SPASH’s defense didn’t allow East to score in double figures in any quarter. SPASH limited East to 6-24 shooting and out rebounded the Lumberjacks 36-16. East falls to 0-8 in conference play. SPASH’s next opponent will be on January 29 when the Panthers hit the road to take on Valley Conference rival Marshfield, who lost to Wausau West 64-54 on Friday night. Meanwhile, Wausau East will take on DC Everest on January 29. SPASH Stats:
