Stevens Point– For the average golfer, making par on a couple of holes in a round of golf would constitute a highly successful outing.

Trevor Thomas, 17, is not your average golfer.

Thomas, a junior at SPASH, earned the title of 2012 Wisconsin boys junior player of the year.  A member of SPASH’s golf team, Thomas claimed the title by accumulating 1472.25 points while playing in a series of tournaments last year.  In addition to winning the title, Thomas was also featured in Wisconsin Golfer Magazine.

Thomas won the Lake Arrowhead Invitational, the Mike Bencriscutto Junior Masters and the High School Showcase last year.  He also had strong finishes in several other tournaments and one-day golf events.

For Thomas, being named player of the year was the result of a lifetime of dedication and hard work.

“I’ve been playing golf since I was probably two or three years old,” Thomas said.

When he found out he had been named player of the year, he was elated.

“I was ecstatic,” Thomas said.  “It was a great feeling.  My friends and family, they were all really proud of me.  It feels great to have that kind of support.”
