MADISON — Natalie Neuwirth’s last trip to the WIAA Division 1 State Swimming & Diving Meet will leave her with many fond memories for years to come.
Neuwirth surpassed her previous best finish in a four-year run at state by placing third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time 1 minutes, 50.46 seconds. She came into the meet seeded fourth in the event.
Waukesha South/Mukwonago’s Abby Jagdfeld won the event in a state record 1:47.67.
Neuwirth wasn’t done, however. She added a fourth-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.26 to help the Panthers place 15th in the team standings with 46 points.
In the 200 medley relay, SPASH’s Janna Check, Sara Tainter, Skyelar Volm and Neuwirth combined to place 13th with a time of 1:51.85. Hartland Arrowhead won the event in 1:44.44.
Kendra Hilgemann, Sarah Kane, Jocelyn Moses and Bethany Novak-Tveten of Wausau East teamed up to finish 16th in a time of 1:52.59.
D.C. Everest junior Ashley Kroll placed 21st in the 50 freestyle (24.98), while the Panthers’ Janna Check turned in a 16th-place result in the 100 butterfly (59.25).
SPASH and Wausau East also picked up points in the 200 freestyle relay.
The Panthers’ quartet of Tainter, Volm, Neuwirth and Check had a 14th-place showing with a time of 1:40.55. East was right behind in 15th as Moses, Desiree Revoir, Hilgemann and Novak-Tveten swam a time of 1:40.63.
Kane was disqualified in the 100 breaststroke for the Lumberjacks, who finished with a share of 34th overall with six points.
