Cameron Cline plunged into the end zone from the 1 with 4:28 remaining to rally No. 6 Western Boone to a 12-8 victory over Southmont in a Class 3A, Sectional 20 football semifinal Friday night.

The deciding drive started after a Southmont punt at the WeBo 34 yard line with 52 seconds left in the third quarter. Stars senior quarterback C.J. McMann engineered his team with 15 runs and three passes over the next 8:24.

Both teams scored on their initial drives, set up by terrific kickoff returns. Western Boone took nearly five minutes off the clock to drive 59 yards, topped off by LV Bowden scoring from a yard out and an early 6-0 lead.

Devon Burton returned the ensuing kick 58 yards to the Stars 22. Four Burton runs took Southmont to the 5. Pat Myers scored from the 1 and added the two-point run for an 8-6 Mounties advantage.
