BB: Western Boone tops Mounties
January 9, 2012Southmont High School
The Mounties played host to Western Boone for a primetime basketball game on January 6th. In what proved to be a tale of two halves, Southmont found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard at the end of the game, losing 75-63. The visitors started out well, playing a consistent first half. Consequently, they were able to take a four point lead into the locker room at the half. However, Western Boone came out firing on all cylinders to start the second half. The visiting Stars lit up the gym in the third quarter, outscoring the home team by eight points and taking a four point lead into the final quarter. The fourth quarter proved to be just as dismal for the hometown faithful, as they watched the visiting Stars complete their comeback. Despite the loss, Southmont had a trio of excellent offensive performers. Senior Austin Burton led the way with a game high 24 points on the night. Sophomore Devin Burton also contributed 20 points, and Cody Thomas contributed 13. The loss meant that Southmont fell to 4-3 on the year.
