BSOC: Dragons vs Sam Houston
January 28, 2013Southlake Carroll Athletic Boosters
Southlake, TX - January 22, 2012 - by K/J Horne
The Dragon Men hosted a well-regarded Arlington Sam Houston team on Tuesday night at Dragon Stadium. The men exerted their will early with a nice pass from Brad to a speeding Jack P less than 5 minutes into the game that resulted in one of many near misses. A few minutes later, the center ref received an unrequested, pro bono cranial adjustment, courtesy of a would-be, cross-field pass attempt by Winslow. The Dragon “D” clamped down on the normally creative Sam Houston mids and forwards, with Tanner, Paul, and Logan disrupting things across the width of the pitch. With 13 minutes left in the first stanza, Michael placed a free kick nicely into the middle of the box, with only a mad scramble by the frenzied defense preventing a Dragon goal. Three minutes later, Brad had a promising run that ended with him down in the box, but nary a whistle to be heard. He shook off that situation quickly, however, and almost scored on a header from a Winslow center from the left side with less than 2 minutes left. The fusillade of shots continued with a nice effort by Tommy late in the half off a deflected corner from Walker.
Within the first minute of the second half, the Dragons nearly found the net on a missile by Winslow that appeared to have been deflected by a stray hand. A bit later in the half, Shane shaked-and-baked around a couple defenders and played a nice roller to Jack P which almost struck paydirt for the Men. Over the remainder of the half, the Dragons benefited from no less than 5 corner kicks resulting in close scoring opportunities, and executed several multi-pass runs resulting in legitimate threats. Sprinkled among those efforts were several fine defensive plays by the Dragon back line and ?ber-goalie Turner that swatted away each Sam Houston advance. In the end, the Dragons came away with a dominating nil nil tie.
