Girls ESR Top 50: Dec. 18

TOP STORY: It’s the calm before the storm for winter season soccer programs. Forty-four of last week’s Top 50 remain in the rankings this week, but that might prove very temporary as a run of major winter tournaments is now only days away. Excalibur and Tri-Valley in California, Arizona Showcase and the National Elite Prep Showcase in Texas are the events that will shape the rankings, and the California events start next week.

BIG MOVER: Capistrano Valley (Mission Viejo, Calif.). A victory over former No. 5 San Clemente (San Clemente, Calif.) last week vaults Capistrano Valley into this week’s Top 15.

NEWCOMERS: No. 15 Capistrano Valley (Mission Viejo, Calif.), No. 17 Sunny Hills (Fullerton, Calif.), No. 41 Torrance (Torrance, Calif.), No. 42 South Torrance (Torrance, Calif.), No. 46 Grapevine (Grapevine, Texas), No. 47 Claremont (Claremont, Calif.).

NOTES: The winter season includes the following states: Arizona, California (winter), Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
