Gavin, Ezell key Lady Braves' victory

ELLISVILLE - South Jones pounded out 15 hits in a 15-9 winner over visiting Meridian in prep fast pitch action Monday night. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth because of rain.

South Jones (11-5 overall) scored six runs in the fourth on four hits, including a three-run double to left-center field by Mikaylan Ezell.

Thirteen of the Lady Braves' hits were singles. Two were doubles, including one other by Hanna Tolbert.

Reagan Gavin led the Lady Braves offensively with four singles. Abbey Pitts and Callin Gibson both contributed three hits, while Hope Hathorn, Michala Dye and Kellie Nelson all had one hit in the victory.

Rachel Ellzey earned the win in the circle for the Lady Braves. In going the distance, Ezell faced 26 batters, allowed four hits, one earned run, walked six and fanned seven.

South Jones travels to Northeast Lauderdale on Thursday for a Region 5-4A contest starting at 6 p.m. The Lady Braves are 3-2 in region play.

The two teams turn around and play in Ellisville on Friday. That game begins at 6 p.m.
