VYPE's Player of the Year -- La Marque's Julien Lewis

March 9, 2011
By Matt Malatesta of VYPE MAGAZINE - South Houston

Julien Lewis, La Marque High School

Scouting Report:
The University of Texas-commit has scratched and clawed for everything he's gotten all his life, and he has the markings to prove it. His tattooed arms tell the story of a rough and tumble life in La Marque, Texas.

Basketball is his ticket and his combination of explosion and control on the basketball court is so rare that the Longhorn staff offered him after his sophomore year.

"He's a kid from the streets who see's crime every day," RCS Sports' Jim Hicks said. "He's earned money in the park in street basketball games instead of playing AAU basketball. But he's so athletic and can take a game over at any time. If a game turns into a street ball game like the Yates game, he will take it over. The coach might as well get out of the way and let him do what he's grown up doing."
