Could a move up from Class 4a to Class 5A help the Manvel Mavericks? It will be a district battle between Manvel and Pearland for district supremacy, but now Manvel doesn't have to run into buzz saw Yates in the playoffs. But he Mavs will meet up with the salty Fort Bend schools in the postseason, so pick your poison.

While Manvel graduated big-man Terry Allen, coach Greg Devers returns an oversized front line as Traylin Farris (6-foot-7), Justin Gardner (6-foot-8) and Leon Gilmore (6-foot-7) make for a tough matchup for their opponents.

Getting the bigs the rock and three-point shooting will be paramount for Manvel's success. Carlos Thompson will lead the backcourt with the likes of Gavyn Walker and Ahmad Huff.
