Passing Shane McCarley, Manvel – Throwing for 368 yards and three touchdowns (2 INTs) is McCarley warming up for the 2012 season. The Mavericks earned the win with a 35-21 finish over Spring. This marks the Mavericks’ first win in the Class 5A division.
James Davis, South Houston – Davis completed over 70 percent of his passes and threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns (one INT) and also ran for another 56 yards, but that was nowhere near enough to slow down the potent Summer Creek team that beat them 69-28.
Rushing Troy McCormick, Mayde Creek – It was stated this past off season that McCormick should be ready seeing that he would likely be getting more touches. And with the 41-0 win over Cy Springs, McCormick did all he could, scoring four touchdowns and running for 281 yards.
Trevoriss Johnson, Alief Taylor – Johnson ran the ball against Bellaire as if he were made at someone or something. Surely the Taylor don’t mind if he gets into that mind frame, especially when he runs for 286 yards and three touchdowns.
Receiving Breck Powers, Rosehill Christian – In a dominating fashion, Rosehill housed the North side Homeschool 55-0. In the win, Powers caught on four passes, but he had 152 receiving yards and scored a touchdown.
Roderick Bernard, Sharpstown – In a 22-12 win over Houston Sterling, Bernard had three receptions for 150 yards and a couple of scores. That’s a whopping 50 yards per catch. Just saying.
Scoring Leader Connor Feist, Langham Creek – The Lobo quarterback accounted for six touchdowns in a shootout match in which his team came out on the losing end against Klein Oak 63-56 in overtime. Feist completed less than 50 percent of his passes, but was able to rush for five touchdowns.
