Oilers Returns Everybody
Did Not Reach the Playoffs
Is it safe to go ahead and peg the Pearland baseball team as early district favorites for 24-5A? Even if the Oilers didn't make the playoffs in 2011.
Well, based on the roster of solid returning starters, that would not be a far-fetched idea. Going into his second year in the head position (four years total), Pearland coach Anthony Scalise is looking forward to a great season after a 16-13-1 finish in 2011.
“We return just about everyone, including our entire pitching staff,” Scalise said. “The only two positions we lost are second base and centerfield.”
So it is safe to say that experience is a big part of buzz around the Pearland program and it looks as though the pitching crew will be a good one. Senior right-hander Chris Clark returns to the mound as does Blake Goins, who is a righty headed to Texas, a player poised for a big season.
Catcher Josh Stokmans returns behind the plate while Bradley Cuyos (Hill College) is a versatile guy who will double at the same position, but primarily will be the Oiler third baseman. Look for Kevin Macias short stop and Nash Parnell in the outfield.
