Home » Baseball NewsVYPE's Preseason Baseball Top 20 -- No. 12 Brazoswood BucsFebruary 14, 2012 By Matt Malatesta of VYPE MAGAZINE - South HoustonNo. 12 The Brazoswood Bucs What Will They Do For an Encore? Ahmard Vital Class 5A State Champs
What a finish the Brazoswood baseball team had in 2011. The Buccaneers finished with a 34-8 record and really poured it on late in the season defeating the state’s best.
The road to state included Kempner, South Houston, Deer Park, Lamar, Memorial, Klein and then Coronado in the championship game. The state title win capped off a 13-game win streak to end the season for the Bucs.
And though coach Bobby Williams lost a number of players who were large contributors to the title run, 10 letterman are back from that championship roster. One of those major contributors is third baseman Dalton Perry. Last season, Perry came through in some big spots, which earned him a place on the all-district and the state all-tournament team. Perry has signed with Sam Houston State.
On the mound, all-district pitcher Justin Dellinger (Texas State-signee) is the top returner. Dellinger is joined by A.J. Angelone and Ethan Stremmel, who both saw time last year. Sliding into the infield positions, Evan Hundl and Trevor Valigura should be penciled in the lineup.
Returning outfielders include Dominik Mottu-Branch, Jacob Reed, Zac Trevino and Ryan Rios. The well-coached squad is a tough out for any program come playoff time.
