Home » Boys' Tennis NewsApril 14, 2012 SouthWest Conference Pre-District TournamentApril 15, 2012 By Tony Hernandez of South Eugene High SchoolAt the April 14, 2012 SouthWest Conference Pre-District Tournament held in Roseburg, South Eugene Boy's Tennis team members won 4 out of the 8 flights in both singles and doubles. John Jimenez easily won the #2 Singles Flight, losing only a few games in his two matches. Nevin Taylor, at the #1 Singles position won his first match, and then played extremely tough, playing one of the top players in the State, Matt Pronesti, of South Medford, and only losing 3-8 in a pro set. The #2, #3, and #4 doubles teams from South Eugene all won their flights. At the #2 position, Jacob Kranitz, Senior, and Josh Slason, Freshman, won in a tough three set finals match against a talented team from Roseburg. The #3 team, consisting of Jake Russin, Sophomore, and Alan Shirk, Senior, breezed through all three of their matches. The #4 team of Sam Davis, Senior, and Mirek Brandt, Sophomore, also won their flight. This was a great preview of how strong the South Eugene team will be at the regular District Tournament. Everyone will be hearing more from these guys, and we hope to send a strong team to the State Tournament too.
