Richmond Blanks Scots to Face Pinecrest in Final

May 4, 2011
Southeastern Conference

With a chance to reach the Southeastern Conference tournament final, the Scotland High School varsity baseball team put together one of their worst performances of the season Tuesday night at McCoy Field, giving up double digit runs to Richmond Senior High School to fall 10-0 in tournament play.

The Scots stranded seven runners while picking up just five hits, all while giving up a pair of 2-run homers early in the game to fall in deep hole from which they never recovered.

Richmond starting pitcher Luke Bullard threw seven complete innings on the mound, recording three strikeouts while shutting Scotland out inning after inning.

The Raiders wasted little time jumping on the Scots, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning on just two hits in the frame.

Richmond leadoff hitter Chandler Connor reached base on a single to start the Raiders' run, eventually crossing home on a 2-out home run over the leftfield fence from Richmond centerfielder Alex Dockery.

Dockery's blast put Richmond up by two until the third inning, when the Raiders used another 2-run shot from Bullard to double their lead.

Bullard sent the blast over the right centerfield fence for Richmond's second home run of the night, scoring Andy Shuler to go up 4-0.

Scotland threatened in the bottom of the third, starting off a 2-out rally with a single from centerfielder Derrick Barnes. Cody Marcure reached base on a single in the Scots' next at-bat, and a Curt Britt walk left bases loaded for Scotland shortstop Greg Jorgensen. Jorgensen ended the inning with a flyout to the pitcher, as Scotland stranded three runners in the frame to remain behind by four.

The Raiders added their fifth run of the night in the fifth inning, scoring on a Bradley Brown sacrifice fly.

Richmond closed the game with five runs in the top of the seventh inning, scoring on three hits and two Scotland errors.
