Scotland tops Lady Rams in SEC opener
In their opening game of the season, the Rams (0-1) fell to Scotland by a final of 9-0.
The Lady Scots’ coach, Colin McDavid, was pleased with his teams play, as well as the Rams effort.
“We were okay tonight, we did alright,” McDavid said. “Don’t let the score fool you though, I loved the spirit and effort of Purnell, I hope they keep their soccer program because they are an up and coming team.”
The Scots’ (3-2-1) used a six goal barrage in the opening half to give themselves breathing room for the rest of the game.
“That first half definitely put us at ease for the rest of the game,” McDavid said. “I didn’t want to call off the dogs or anything, but I liked our effort and intensity for the rest of the game.”
Josie Yang scored a hat trick in the win while Greta Griswold scored two goals.
Yang started the scoring with a goal 5:10 into the game.
Leading 4-0 entering the final minute of play, the Scots scored twice in a 13 second span to pad their lead entering the break.
A nearly identical occurrence happened in the second half as the Scots scored their final two goals in a 29 second span to put the finishing touches on their 9-0 victory.
