March 18, 2014
By Brittany Villacorta of South Houston High School

On Thursday, March 6th, ten SoHo students participated in the Academic World Quest competition at Pelazzio Houston. World Quest is a series of games with four rounds of twenty questions each. Questions vary from being about international events to global politics. The students who participated were:

  • Adan Diaz and Karen Perez, who represented Mexico.
  • Angel Rubio and Arlen Suarez, who represented India.
  • Israel Phillips and Julia Hernandez, who represented Africa.
  • Daisy Vaquera, who represented Pakistan.
  • Diego Medina, who represented Vietnam.
  • Melanie Orellana, who represented Saudi Arabia.
  • Valentine Galarza, who represented Scotland.

Moreover, the coaches were:

  • Mr. Stewart, who represented North America.
  • Ms. Nguyen, who represented Vietnam, as well.

Our fellow Trojans placed second in both a quizzing round and costumes. Ms. Andrea Nguyen had nothing but kind words to say about the students. She stated, "I'm extremely proud of the students. I feel as if they showed a substantial amount of class and very strong enthusiasm. All the hard work and hours they put forth is the reason they did very well."
